Oxford creates new shopping and restaurant quarter


Oxford City Council has overseen plans for a new designer shopping destination to replace the 1960s Westgate Centre.

Complete with rooftop restaurants and cinema it is part of a twenty year plan to keep the city a vibrant destination for visitors as well as provide community spaces for those that live in the city.

The manicured lawns of University of Oxford are not always open to the public and there has been concern from Land Securities to develop two new public realm spaces in the Westgate for people to relax in while shopping.
