Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners at Future Cities Forum

We are delighted that Ivan Harbour, Partner at the leading international architecture practice, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, will be speaking at Future Cities Forum in September.

Our forum takes place at Ravensbourne University London, next to the O2 Arena in one of London's most important areas of rapid change and development, the Greenwich Peninsula. New housing, retail and entertainment are key to this important district, which faces Canary Wharf and the emerging cultural hub of Stratford in East London.

The firm was founded as the Richard Rogers Partnership in 1977. It works from offices in the Leadenhall Building in the City of London. Over the past four decades, RSHP has attracted critical acclaim and awards with built projects across Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia.

Ivan has been key in developing the design language of RSH-p over the past 25 years, with projects as diverse as Maggie's London and Madrid Barajas Airport, which have won the most prestigious architectural award in the UK, the Stirling Prize.

He began his career on Lloyd's of London and subsequently led the design of the European Court of Human Rights and Bordeaux Law Courts. He was made Director in 1993, and senior partner in 2011.

Ivan has designed a 22-hectare masterplan for Barangaroo South which is a sustainable approach to create a new district that connects an existing piece of city to the waterfront. This scheme highlights the key factors involved to make a new destination for the people that is vibrant, animated and safe.

The first phase of which has now been transformed into a vibrant, mixed use carbon zero waterfront district. The masterplan reflects the area’s urban and political imperatives. Barangaroo South has played a key role in delivering a new public realm, a new quarter and kick-started a renewal of the City of Sydney’s commercial space. The urban structure of this new quarter is a game changer for high density development, focused on people rather than cars.

Current projects for the firm also include a new academic building for the LSE in London; the masterplan and two buildings within The International Quarter in Stratford, London; and a new district in Monte Carlo which includes residential, commercial and retail areas, an art gallery, conference centre and park.

Ivan has also been instrumental in developing Homeshell, an innovative off-site form of construction that can be used for social housing and other building types.

This month the practice won a RIBA National Award 2019 for 'Merano', a high-quality mixed use development of apartments, offices and café locate on the Albert Embankment of London's River Thames, opposite Tate Britain and within site of the Houses of Parliament.

The firm has also won a competition organised by the Ville de Paris for the 9 hectare Montparnasse Masterplan on the left bank of the river Seine in Paris. The design will provide more dynamism and diversity to this cultural and transport hub - a pivotal quarter of Paris.
