Real estate and Herbert Smith Freehills

Future Cities Forum is delighted that Herbert Smith Freehills' Head of Planning in London Matthew White, will be a panel speaker at our Infrastructure 2020 forum on 11 February.

Matthew is a partner in Herbert Smith Freehills' real estate division and he has more than 20 years of experience advising on all aspects of planning and development law.

Projects that Matthew has worked on include the Stratford City masterplan, which delivered the Athletes' Village for the 2012 Olympic Games, King's Cross Central, the Canada Water masterplan, Silvertown Quays, Ruskin Square in Croydon, the transformation of the Southbank Centre, Broadgate in the City of London, Sky's headquarters and media campus in Osterley and the Hinkley Point C new nuclear power station.

Matthew graduated with an MA in Economics and Law from Clare College, University of Cambridge. He is a member of the City of London Law Society Planning and Environmental Law Committee, a Trustee of the Campaign for Better Transport, Secretary of the Surrey Docks Farm Management Committee, a member of the British Property Federation's Planning Committee, a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

Matthew is named as a 'Star Individual' in Chambers UK and as a leading individual in the Legal 500 Hall of Fame. Legal 500 2020 states that Matthew "is a calm, polite and skilful negotiator, adept at quickly disarming aggressive opponents and getting to the pragmatic and commercial heart of a negotiation."
