Stanhope's Mediaworks development at White City Place - by Allies and Morrison

Future Cities Forum was delighted to be taken on a tour this week by Stanhope's Martyn Chase of the new mixed use development at White City Place, London, W12 which has around 2 million feet of new model office space.

Tenants include the digital fashion house, YOOX, Net a Porter, the Royal College of Art, Huckletree and ITV Studios Daytime.

As with all of Stanhope's work, the quality of development is extremely high and those already active in this mixed-use campus are enjoying the buzz of being around the workings of the BBC, which still has 3,000 staff there, as well as excellent restaurants to eat at during lunch hour.

The original BBC Television Centre in Wood Lane, next to White City Place, saw construction begin in 1951 and during the 1970's was the production base for 'I Claudius' and variety shows such as 'Morecambe and Wise'. It has now been restored and developed into 432 homes, premium offices, independent cinema and members' club Soho House, with a hotel. The buildings are listed and features such as the marble pillars and the central circular courtyard next to the original BBC reception, where famous guests used to arrive to record in the studios, have been preserved. Residents have their own ground floor lounge and cinema, gym and pool.

Stanhope, Mitsui Fudosan and AIMCO acquired Media Village in White City in 2015. Located just 12 minutes from Bond Street station, White City is set to create London's most exciting mixed-use quarter. It is opposite White City and Wood Lane tube stations on the Central and Hammersmith & City lines.

The organisations behind the continuing and ambitious plans for the White City area include Imperial College, Westfield London, Berkeley St James and Stanhope. New public spaces, an enhanced world-class shopping offer and a hub for academia, innovation and start-ups are all part of this shared vision.
