Sir Steve Bullock on Sutton's housing plan

We are delighted that Sir Steve Bullock will be speaking at our November forum at Royal Arsenal Woolwich on our new housing directions panel.

Steve has recently been chosen as Sutton Housing Partnership's new Chair of the Board of Directors, following a recruitment process involving residents, SHP and Sutton Council staff, Board Members and councillors.

His wish is to be directly involved in delivering better housing for SHP's residents and is excited about SHP's new strategic direction. One of his key priorities is to make the way SHP is governed, more transparent and accessible to residents.

Steve spoke at our June round table on the National Policy Planning Framework about housing pressures and the Green Belt.. He warned that there would have to be much better collaboration between councils on sharing the housing burden in future to prevent good quality buildings being demolished o make way for new homes.

During his final term as Mayor of Lewisham, the council launched the innovative Ladywell Place scheme by Rogers Stirk Harbour for temporary and cost effective housing using volumetric construction.

Steve was Executive member for Housing at London Councils for the last eight years and is currently a Board Member at the Housing and Finance Institute. He has been a member of the Homes for London Board and its successor and a Board Member at the Housing Ombudsman.

He was Mayor of Lewisham for 16 years and was knighted in 2007 for services to local government. In May this year, Steve was commissioned to be a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London.
