LDA Design masterplan for new homes at Stratford with the London Legacy Development Corporation

The final piece of East Bank, Stratford Waterfront residential quarter, has secured planning approval. This decision will create a community of 700 new riverside homes in the heart of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, right next to the Park’s new culture and education district.


LDA Design has partnered with Howells and O’Donnell+Tuomey architects on a masterplan for Ballymore and the London Legacy Development Corporation, working together in a joint venture.


Bounded by Waterworks River to the south, Carpenters Road to the north and East Bank to the southeast, residents will benefit from all of the amenities that being in the heart of the Park offers.


LDA Design has reported:


This new neighbourhood is designed to be green and walkable, a restful alternative to East Bank’s cultural bustle. At the development’s heart is Carpenters Yard, an expansive and calming wooded space, which also connects the riverfront to Carpenters Road. Carpenters Road itself will be significantly improved and made much greener. The landscape is designed to be playable. This is a place where getting to know your neighbour is made easier by its lovely social spaces and generous, comfortable seating.


The residential towers’ design and materials are in harmony with East Bank’s high-profile new civic buildings. 

The ‘Prow’ is the first residential building at the site’s northern tip. It is designed by O’Donnell + Tuomey, the team behind East Bank’s new V&A building and Sadler’s Wells Dance Theatre. 


The three other buildings making up this new community are by masterplan lead, Howells.


Following this planning success, detailed design can now get underway with a view to beginning construction in 2026.
