Reaching for a greener Sky

Sky, Europe’s largest media company, has secured planning permission from West Lothian Council for a new campus at Kirkton, Livingston, Scotland - LDA Design reports.
Livingston has been home to Sky’s customer service operation for more than three decades. The new development will enable Sky to consolidate more of its operations to Kirkton, accommodating 3,000 staff on an ultra-low-energy campus.
The site’s landscape will play a big part in making the campus a great place to work. Guided by LDA Design’s outcomes-led approach, the design supports a sustainable, sociable and inclusive environment that prioritises wellbeing and active lifestyles.
LDA Design helped develop the plans alongside architects MLA, engineers Harley Haddow, Arup and Egis.
The campus will also welcome the wider community, with an open and inviting feel and improved connections to existing transport links and active travel networks.
Demolition of no longer fit-for-purpose buildings to the south and existing hardscaping make way for native woodland, wildflower meadows and a network of ponds, swales and wetland SuDS, improving biodiversity, water management, habitat creation and access to nature across the site. Woodland edges and ecological corridors are reinforced throughout, and new planting typologies support further net gain.
The project follows industry best practice in sustainable construction and lifecycle thinking, maximising reuse and reducing embodied carbon.
