Virtual museums and sustainable tourism
Will the trend towards virtual museums become a negative for our communities or a sustainable feature of our cities?
Donald Hyslop, Head of Regeneration at Tate Modern, will be talking at our Future Cities Forum on 28th September 2016 about the value of museums in regenerating our local communities. Expanding museum facilities inevitably makes an impact on our communities but Donald believes that if managed sensitively with consideration for tourists, working and local people, they can have a successful outcome. Donald has seen the regeneration of the Southwark area around Tate Modern grow and develop effectively.
Other commentators believe in the sustainable nature of virtual museums and collections where the polution of transport is kept at bay through enabling those interested to learn about artefacts in their own homes.
