Science-led growth for King's Cross and Camden

Camden Council is speaking on our science panel at our 13th June foum, Burlington House, London about the benefits of economic growth due to scientific activity, R&D and commercialisation.

The council has just launched its STEAM commission recommendations. This includes the role of arts and creative industries in its STEM programme. Camden is keen to pursue an inclusive growth agenda to ensure good outcomes for all residents and this includes a focus on skills development, accessing work experience and apprenticeships with a continuing in-work progression.

Camden Council's Business Relationships and Network Manager, Patrick Jones, will discuss the strategic picture for the area, the scale of growth in King's Cross/St Pancras and Euston. He will highlight the place-making work that has been undertaken, the Knowledge Quarter and key institutions such as the Crick Institute.

The key message here is that 'growth drives growth' and this is one of the most sought after districts for investment in life sciences and healthcare, hence the attraction for Moorfields in conjunction with UCL to build its new hospital in the area.
