When Zaha Hadid's Principal, Patrik Schumacher, comes to Future Cities Forum this October to speak about healthy cities and 'walking London' , he may well mention the London Aquatics Centre, which was project designed by the firm.

Royal Mail is commemorating the building in a new set of special stamps celebrating contemporary architecture this summer.

Three million visitors have experienced the swimming pool complex since it was created for the London Olympics since 2012, with currently 14,000 using it every week.

The building was described by The Guardian when it opened as 'the most jaw-dropping municipal swimming pool in the world' with its swooping wave of a roof.

Phillip Parker, Stamp Strategy Manager at Royal Mail says the stamps depict ' visionary buildings which combine stunning architecture with great engineering'.

The past two decades have seen a surge in the construction of new public buildings in the UK serving culture, sport, government and business.
