Environmental remediation in China

Aecom, a global infrastructure firm, spoke at our June forum this year on world museum sustainability with V&A Director Tristram Hunt, but is now highlighting its work in China to remediate some of the country's most polluted areas.

It has signed an agreement with a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Group Ltd - HPDI - the fourteenth largest state owned enterprise in the People's Rupublic of China, to establish a venture in Beijing servicing the need for stronger environmental protections.

Projects will include solutions for soil and ground-water pollution, surface water and sediment remediation and treatment of solid and water waste.

As economic and social development has risen across China, there is concern over environmental impacts with a dramatic shift forward in official and public support for remediation.

'Greening: Developing environmental technology industry as well as ecological living and ecological living and culture' was named as one of five core pillars of the PRC national government's Five Year Plan, launched in late 2016.

AECOM designs, builds, finances and operates infrastructure assets for governments, businesses and organisations in more than 150 countries, connecting knowledge and experience over its global network.
