Vastint and Sugar House Island

The international real estate organisation, Vastint, will be speaking at Future Cities Forum on 22nd November and we are delighted that Vastint Services UK Managing Director, Andrew Cobden will be discussing among other topics, the company's development at Sugar House Island in the East of London.

The first phase of Sugar House Island has launched and comprises eight historic and new office buildings targeted at the creative industries. Vastint UK is committed to creating a thriving long-term district just south of the Olympic Park. The scheme will deliver a total of 58,000 square meters of commercial space, bringing 2,500 jobs to Newham.

The creative quarter - Dane's Yard - has a canal-side site and fuses the industrial heritage of a Conservation Area with clean and modern designs into a sensitively-restored, contemporary hub in which small and medium-sized businesses can locate.

Andrew states 'we know we have to bring life and activity and so are initiating early discussions with independent owners of cafes, bars and restaurants supplying exactly what creative businesses need. It is the balance of daytime, evening and weekend activity that makes a place feel alive.'

The overall scheme is designed by nine different architects, a deliberate decision to introduce variation into the look and feel of the buildings including the spaces in between them. The site's old yards and alleyways were retained to preserve the distinctive character of this old industrial area.
