Moorfields CEO at Future Cities Forum

We are delighted that the Chief Executive of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, David Probert, will be speaking at our 'Healthy Cities' forum on 30th January at Apothecaries' Hall, London.

He will be speaking about the 'Project Oriel', Moorfields' and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology's new centre for eye care, research and education. The trust has just announced that AECOM, Penoyre & Prasad along with White Arkitekter have been appointed to design the new centre.

The appointment follows a comprehensive, six-month long competition process led by the Royal Institute of British Architects and is a joint proposal from Moorfields Eye Hospital, UCL and Moorfields Eye Charity.

David Probert said 'It has been a huge few months for this innovative and exciting project, with Moorfields recently securing a substantial amount of funding from the Department of Health and Social Care.

The design of the facility is focused on maximising collaboration and knowledge exchange, with an 'oriel' at the building's centre enabling greater interaction between patients, clinicians and researchers. The facility's public spacs will create a new urban realm that will connect seamlessly with the ongoing renaissance of the King's Cross area of London.

Camden CCG on behalf of Islington CCG will lead a public consultation on the relocation of NHS services from Moorfields Eye Hospital to the proposed new site at St Pancras Hospital, so that patients, residents and staff will have an opportunity to have their say on the proposal. If approved, the new facilitiy could be open to patients in 2025/26.

David has been the Chief Executive Officer of Moorfields NHS Foundation Trust since April 2016. Prior to that David was the Director of Strategic Development at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he has led the development of a number of strategic initiatives including two major hospital developments on the Bloomsbury site. David is also the Chairman of the World Association of Eye Hospitals (WAEH)

He has also held a number of senior operational leadership positions at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

David is a past fellow of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in Boston, USA, and holds an MBA from the University of Leicester.
