The regeneration of Peterborough Station and the surrounding area has taken a leap forward with Government approval of the business case for the £47.8 million scheme, according to LDA Design.
The firm has been commenting on the proposed scheme:
'Pending the outcome of the Government’s Spending Review in June, construction of the first phase could get underway as early as the autumn.
'The Station Quarter project will transform connectivity, and arrival and user experience, creating new entrances to the station, high-quality public realm by LDA Design, and a much clearer and more legible route through to the city centre. A simpler urban landscape with less clutter, improved sightlines, and framed views to landmark buildings will aide navigation.
'A new western entrance to the station will provide a drop-off point and parking. A refurbished station on the eastern side will directly link into a reinvigorated, greener station square, with seating and new opportunity to spend more time there. Known as the ‘City Link’, it will establish a more walkable and ridable route to the centre, replacing the current convoluted underpass at Cowgate.

'The scheme is backed by the Combined Authority, Peterborough City Council, LNER, and Network Rail. It is being viewed as a catalyst for good growth. Future planned phases could unlock potential through new development, including residential and commercial, replacing some surface-level car parking.'
The design team includes Arup, Landolt+Brown, GPAD, LDA Design and Fatkin.
