Future Cities Forum is delighted that Vardaman (‘Vardy’) Jones, Managing Director at Rendel, will be contributing to its infrastructure and energy discussion event hosted by Grimshaw this autumn.
He is on the board (CODIR) of Ingerop with responsibility for the company’s operations in global infrastructure markets embracing bridges, tunnels, highways, airports, rail systems, ports and maritime facilities. He has over 35 years of civil and structural engineering experience, particularly in the design and construction of long-span, cable-supported bridges. His expertise relates to the construction of such structures as well as performing risk analyses and ship impact studies.
Vardy has developed deep knowledge of major transport infrastructure projects on every continent of the world, playing a key role in developing winning bidding teams, joint ventures and consortia with complementary skills and expertise that add value to clients’ capital programmes and projects. His extensive portfolio of project assignments spans the world – from the Americas, Europe and Africa through to the Middle East, Indian Sub-continent and Asia-Pacific.
His major project assignments include HS2, the design of the Aswan concrete cable-stayed bridge spanning the River Nile in Egypt; analysis and design of temporary works for the Great Belt (Storæbelt) Suspension Bridge (The East Bridge) in Denmark; technical tender evaluation of the Rion-Antirion cable-stayed bridge in Greece; and preliminary design of the Kap Shui Mun cable-stayed bridge deck in Hong Kong.
Vardy's immersed tube tunnel experience includes the New Tyne Tunnel, UK; Limerick Tunnel, Republic of Ireland; Genoa City Crossing, Italy; Medway Crossing, UK and Thessaloniki Immersed Tunnel, Greece. Other major project assignments include design of the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, Abu Dhabi, UAE, Aswan concrete cable-stayed bridge spanning the River Nile in Egypt; technical tender evaluation of the Rion-Antirion cable-stayed bridge in Greece.
Over his career, Vardy has worked with government agencies, investors, banks, major corporations, operators, international contractors, specialist vendors, lawyers and insurers across the entire project and investment life-cycle leading Rendel’s design, engineering, interface management and construction supervision teams, as well as technical experts.
