BDP speaks at Healthy Cities on innovative hospital design
Hospital design is an important topic at our Healthy Cities forum on 9th October at The Crystal Building in London's docklands.
The architecture practice, BDP, is well known for its innovative designs in this area and will be speaking about the work they have carried out at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool.
BDP designed the hospital building to rise out of the park on approach with an undulating profile making it instantly recognisable and a striking and iconic gateway to Liverpool. Central to the design was the ensuring that the majoritiy of rooms whether for children or staff would enjoy park views and that the gardens and terraces would be accessible to all.
Ged Couser, Healthcare Principal at BDP, comments further that ' the design concept has extended to each ward having its own kitchen and garden where patients can have access to fresh herbs and vegetables to be used in cooking but also as areas for education about health and nutrition, particularly involving chidren and young patients.'
The NHS Trust demanded from every architect who pitched for the project that a fresh and innovative approach would be taken.
