Westminster City Council’s Cabinet has approved the appointment of McLaren Construction Limited as the main construction partner for the second phase of the Ebury Bridge redevelopment.

Through the contract approval, the council has agreed a phase two budget worth £229m for the overall construction of the development and the delivery of the next significant milestone for the scheme.

Enabling works for phase two are expected to begin in early 2026 ahead of preparing to build later in the year and the works from McLaren Construction will see the project through to the completion of phase two only.

Westminster City Council states:

'Located in Knightsbridge and Belgravia, Ebury Bridge is one of the council’s largest regeneration projects set to completely re-build an existing 1930s estate, shaping the public realm and creating new communities and a sustainable neighbourhood.

'The Ebury Bridge development will see the biggest delivery of new council homes for social rent in Westminster in over 60 years, delivering 779 homes, 373 for social rent, across three phases. Phase one of the scheme completed in December 2024, with 226 homes delivered, 100 of which were for social rent. Phase two will be delivering an additional 334 homes, 228 of which are for social rent.

'Through the council’s Truly Affordable Housing Strategy, in addition to the 198 social rent reprovisions on this scheme, we increased the number of new council homes for social rent from 41 to 175. This strengthened proposal secured overwhelming resident support, with 91% backing the scheme in the confirmatory ballot, and unlocked over £40m in GLA funding.

'All existing residents have the right to return once works are complete, and the development will provide facilities and spaces for the well-being of residents, with phase two providing a central community square, new retail spaces, play areas and a community centre.

'It will re-establish the Ebury Bridge Road retail parade, provide new premises for longstanding local businesses, and introduce new independent shops, community supermarkets and cafés. New pedestrian routes will open up the estate, improving connections from Ebury Bridge and through to the River Thames.'
